Health Zone
Wimbledon, London
The project consisted of the mixed brief of a health food shop, health
food cafe with associated Kitchen, three consulting rooms with an
office and toilet facilities.
The original building was Victorian and
was in a very poor state of repair. Considerable structural repairs
were necessary to meet Building Regulation requirements
which were very onerous, particularly regarding means of escape.
New fire escape stairs and purpose designed glazed fire screens were
incorporated whilst existing roofs and balustrading were renewed.
The
design concept was a modern style consisting of large clear glazing
with a stainless steel frame, tall glazed entrance door with stainless
steel hinges, floating suspended ceiling with low voltage lighting
and oak floor with new stainless steel glass and oak service stairs
to the first floor cafe.
